The problem

A capacity, renewable-integration or adequacy decision needs a defensible technical evidence base — not an assumption.

A capacity or adequacy decision is usually made long before anyone checks whether the system can carry it. Targets are set against ambition, procurement follows the target, and the network is asked to absorb the result afterwards.

By the time the constraint surfaces it is expensive. A connection queue that will not clear, a curtailment assumption that was never tested, an adequacy margin that holds on average and fails in the hours that matter. None of these are analytical mistakes — they are the consequence of deciding first and modelling second.

How we work

We start from what the system allows rather than from what the target requires, and build the evidence base in the order a decision has to survive: what the network can carry, where the binding constraints sit, what those constraints cost, and only then which pathway is least-cost.

Scenarios are built to be interrogated, not presented. A planning case that cannot be re-run under different assumptions is a snapshot, and snapshots do not survive the years between a decision and its consequences.
